At the Beach

What better way to spend the summer than at the beach?

We just took a trip to Pine Knoll Shores on Emerald Isle to film a promotional video for an oceanfront condo. The first afternoon was a bit overcast, but luckily the clouds started breaking up in the evening and gave a spectacular sunset! This trip added a lot to our library of stock footage.

We also used this opportunity to practice using our new moving camera stabilizer. We can now get much smoother sweeping shots with our Glidecam HD-4000. Check out some of the cool reveals around the apartment in the video.

Fitness World Interview with Aimee

Fitness World has begun a campaign of inspirational stories to help inspire people to get active and improve their health. The hardest part of getting active can be getting started. We chose Aimee and her husband as the focus of our first video. Aimee set a goal at the beginning of the year to lose 100 pounds in 12 months. After only 3 months she had already lost 50 pounds! Already an inspiration to everyone around her, we wanted to share Aimee's story.

New Website

Our web development team has been working furiously for the past couple weeks to produce a brand new, made-from-scratch website to provide users with a beautiful and sleek way to watch our videos and get to know us. Going into this new design, we had a few main goals we sought to accomplish:
  1. Impress - we want anyone who stumbles across the site to be blown away both visually, and with our credibility. As a video company, we want to use video in all aspects of the site, to show potential customers and business partners what we can do.
  2. Inform - we want to provide not simply beautiful images and videos, but concrete information about who we are and what we can offer.
  3. Engage (so it doesn't start with 'I', but it sounds pretty close..) - we want to find people with video needs and work with them to develop the optimal solution.
So check out the site and let us know what you think - what can we do better? What would you want to see?

SmartKage Instructional Videos

We just completed filming and editing 45 Baseball Instructional Videos with Mike Roberts for SmartSports' new SmartKage™technology.

SmartKage™is a system that measures a baseball player's skill level in many areas, including fielding, hitting, pitching, base running, and much more. The system provides quantitative feedback to help players learn strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to see how they stack up against the rest of the nation. It's the SAT® for baseball. Learn more at http://smartkage.com/.

SmartKage™ is designed not just to provide players with these metrics, but also avenues for strengthening weaker skills and learning drills to improve in each area of the game. That's where we come in. Point-5 has produced 45 short videos for SmartKage™, each providing practical steps and insight to approach a weaker skill. If a player is tested at SmartKage™they will receive an evaluation showing their areas of strengths and weaknesses. They will then be able to access these videos to help them improve their game. Each instructional video is taught by our very own, Mike Roberts. In quick 1-2 minute lessons Roberts gives you many different ways to improve every area of your game.

You can also check out the promotional video we did for SmartKage™a while back on our videography page here.

The Cotuit Kettleers

Cape Cod, Massachusetts...

There are many reasons to visit Cape Cod, some of which include vacationing, sailing, and potato chips. But the reason we visited the Cape for our last three summers is the Cape Cod Summer Collegiate Baseball League, where Mike Roberts has been the coach for over ten years. Providing such a peaceful place to work and a beautiful place to film, we have looked forward to our summers in the Cape every year.  Mike's team, the Kettleers, approached us to make a film about their beautiful town of Cotuit, Massachusetts when they began a renovation project. They wanted a film that could be used to raise money for their renovations by showing how vital the Kettleers baseball team is to the community. The video was pitched as a promotional documentary.

We flew to Cotuit in early May to film the video. It was such a pretty time to be on the Cape, as the flowers were blooming and the grass was just beginning to turn green.

This is before most of the summer travelers arrive so the town was pretty quiet, but that did not stop the locals from putting on an awesome 5K run right through the center of town. We got to enjoy good food and cheer on the racers which included the Kettleers own General Manager, Bruce Murphy.

While working on the video, the Kettleers lost their building contractor who who was responsible for making 3D drawings of the new renovations. They asked if I could produce some artwork of how the complex would look after completion. Having a background in Autodesk Maya software, I enjoyed the task of recreating the field in 3D and adding the newly designed buildings.

Cape Cod is rich in history and proud of it's heritage, so the Cotuit Kettleers wanted to preserve the traditional style of old fashioned baseball in their renovations. The "new" features will have the feel of an early 20th century baseball complex. In phase II of the renovations they will be replacing the metal grandstand on the first base line with a beautifully architected wooden grandstand. The grandstand on the third base side is already wooden and will only need minor improvements to match the style of the new first base side.

With the completion of our video and images we hope the Kettleers are able to raise the money needed for these new additions to their already beautiful complex at Lowell Park in Cotuit, MA.

SmartKage Promotional Video

SmartKage™is a system that measures a baseball player's skill level in many areas, including fielding, hitting, pitching, base running, and much more. The system provides quantitative feedback to help players learn strengths and weaknesses, enabling them to see how they stack up against the rest of the nation. It's the SAT® for baseball. Learn more at http://smartkage.com/.

But SmartKage™had a problem. An issue that could become a variable in their testing causing the test to not truly be standardized was a students preparedness. If a student was not fully aware of how he was about to be tested he may be nervous or anxious, causing his performance to be impaired. To solve this problem, SmartKage™hired us to make a video that summarizes everything a student will do when he is tested. The video is a detailed step by step instruction of every station that must be completed to take the test. The hope is that by watching this video, a student will understand what is asked of him and he will be more prepared and less anxious, allowing him to preform at the maximum potential.

To show the wide variety of age groups that can use the facility, we had four athletes from four different age groups act in our video. It was a lot of fun working with these kids and they were talented actors as well as players.

After completing this video we decided that with only a little more coverage we could also make a promotional video. We were already in Boston, MA so we discussed the idea with SmartKage™and they agreed. SmartKage™plans on using the promo video to inform investors about what SmartKage™is all about.

The Price of Dying

One of our favorite things to do is write and produce short films - as long as we've had access to cameras, we've been producing movies. We began in middle school with stop motion animation and LEGO® Studios and gradually moved up to live action videos as we gained experience writing, directing, and editing music videos, action shorts, and documentary film.

Check out this short:

The Price of Dying

As Jimmy tries to console Katie over the death of her husband, you quickly discover that there is more to the story than may be apparent. Watch it a couple times and try to figure out what prompts Katie to act the way she does. If you can accurately explain the story, let us know for a discount on your next P5P purchase!
